With the revelation that foreign performers will play on The Gov’s stage again, South Australians are about to receive a taste of their musical enchantment. Original members John Steel and Mickey Gallagher, as well as Danny Handley and Bobby Ruiz, have confirmed an appearance in Adelaide in late October 2021. Music enthusiasts can look forward to a terrific show containing some of The Animals’ biggest songs.

The Animals are still revered as a groundbreaking rhythm and blues group across the world, both by their contemporaries and by the generations of listeners who have grown up on classics like “We Gotta Get Out of This Place,” “Boom Boom,” “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood,” “Baby, Let Me Take You Home,” “I Put A Spell On You,” and “House of The Rising Sun.” The mythology continues to flourish after 50 years…

The Animals Biography

The Animals (also known as Eric Burdon and the Animals) are a rhythm-and-blues and rock band from Newcastle upon Tyne, England, formed in the early 1960s. After achieving prominence in 1964, the band relocated to London. The band was a part of the British Invasion of the United States, balancing aggressive, rock-edged pop singles with rhythm-and-blues-oriented album content. The Animals’ hallmark song, “The House of the Rising Sun,” and other singles including “Don’t Bring Me Down,” “I’m Crying,” “See See Rider,” and “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” showcase the band’s gritty, bluesy sound and Eric Burdon’s deep voice.

In the mid-1960s, the Animals had multiple personnel changes and suffered from bad economic management, resulting in the original incarnation’s disbandment in 1966. Eric Burdon and the Animals, including a mostly new roster of musicians, relocated to California, where they found commercial success as a psychedelic and hard rock outfit with singles like “San Franciscan Nights,” “When I Was Young,” and “Sky Pilot” before disbanding at the turn of the decade. The band has ten singles that peaked in the top twenty on either the UK Singles Chart or the US Billboard Hot 100.
