World Teacher Day
World Teacher Day is celebrated every year on the 5th of October. The UNESCO/ILO Recommendation Concerning the Status of Teachers, signed in 1966, is commemorated by the 1994 establishment of Teachers’ Day. Teacher status and circumstances are addressed in this standard-setting instrument. In addition, this suggestion includes a set of guidelines for school personnel policies, recruiting and initial training, and teaching continuing education, employment, and working conditions.
World Teachers’ Day 2022 focuses on “Teachers at the heart of educational renewal” and highlights the unwavering efforts of teachers, including during the COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine.
Do You Know? This day is dedicated to “appreciating, evaluating, and enhancing the educators of the globe” and offers a chance to reflect on topics about teachers and teaching. We must take one day a year to say “thank you” to our teachers, who shape our destiny. Remember that instructors are essential, no matter where you are today.
History
The 1966 UNESCO Recommendation on the Status of Teachers is being commemorated on this day. Standards for teachers’ rights and obligations are spelt forth in this document, including their initial preparation, subsequent education, recruitment and employment. 2020 is the year that UNESCO wants to make a statement. Our subject, “Young Teachers: The Future of the Profession,” recognizes the crucial role of reinforcing the teaching purpose. Students can express their potential gratitude to their teachers in various ways, including the delivery of a handwritten note, the creation of a homemade craft or artwork, or the composition of a poem.
While taking a break during the summer is a much-desired advantage, teachers face various challenging difficulties in educational systems across the world. For example, you must preserve academic freedom, educational institutions must be given autonomy, and professional teaching standards must be developed and maintained in higher education. Because of this, faculty meetings, webinars, seminars, and conferences can all take place on World Teachers’ Day.
Teaching should be a career of the first choice for young people, and we urge governments to make this their priority. In addition, we salute the efforts of teachers throughout the world who work tirelessly to guarantee that “inclusive and equitable quality education” for everyone” becomes a reality in every corner of the world. On 7th October, UNESCO Headquarters in Paris will host the formal ceremony. Teachers have made great strides in the educational system, but there is still a long way. For this reason, the United Nations set the Education SDG as one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The annual celebration of World Teachers’ Day serves as a timely reminder of this objective and the pressing need to do more to keep teachers in the classroom.
Celebration
Every year, UNESCO and Education International (EI) organize a campaign to help the world better understand teachers and their potential role in developing students and society to mark World Teachers’ Day. They work with private-sector entities, including media organizations, to accomplish this goal. Every year, a new topic is chosen for the campaign. For example, in 2017, the subject was “Empowering Teachers.” This year, you recognized the UNESCO Recommendation of 1997 on the Status of Higher-Education Teaching Personnel on World Teachers’ Day. Concerning education, UNESCO’s 2018 slogan is, “The right to an educated teacher.” As the potential 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) approaches, it is appropriate to reflect on the potential importance of well-trained and qualified educators in ensuring the right to an education is realized. According to UNESCO, we all have a role to play in honouring the profession, raising awareness of teacher challenges, and ensuring that respect for teachers is part of the natural order.

For example, on this day, schools and students plan a celebration for teachers. More than a hundred nations celebrate World Teachers’ Day, and each one does it in its unique way. India, for example, celebrates Teachers’ Day on 5th September every year. Australian states and territories commemorate the day because it occurs on a school vacation. On Friday, 29th October 2021, it was marked as a national holiday.
