Legendary Hermosa Beach punk rockers PENNYWISE have announced their return to Australia, bringing fellow Californian punk bands CIRCLE JERKS with them for the first time to play seven gigs. Pennywise will return to Australia for the first time in 20 years to commemorate the 20th anniversary of their ARIA certified Gold stratus album ‘Straight Ahead,’ the band’s biggest charting album to date.

Where the alcohol, like the turmoil, never stops flowing. On a Pennywise tour down under, there’s never a boring moment, and only one thing could make it better than usual: coming to town with our mentors and long-time friends, THE CIRCLE JERKS!!! They’re back, and this time with a vengeance!

Pennywise Biography

Pennywise is a Hermosa Beach, California-based punk rock band formed in 1988. Stephen King’s antagonist inspired the band’s name. Epitaph Records, a company controlled by Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz, published Pennywise albums every two years between their 1991 self-titled debut and The Fuse in 2005. To their credit, the band has twelve full-length studio albums, one live album, two EPs, and one DVD.

After two critically-lauded records, Pennywise’s third album, About time, after two critically acclaimed records, reached number 96 on Billboard’s 200 and 55 on Australia’s ARIA Charts. Still, the band didn’t achieve widespread commercial success until the album’s release. Along with other California bands NOFX, Rancid, Blink-182, Bad Religion, Green Day, The Offspring, Lagwagon, and Sublime, the band’s mainstream popularity coincided with a growing interest in punk rock during the 1990s. By 2007, the band had sold over 3 million records globally.

Pennywise Background

Pennywise debuted in 1988 in Los Angeles’ South Bay, a neighborhood with a long punk music tradition. With its explosive chemistry and some of punk rock’s finest tunes, the band would gain an international audience. Punk and hardcore music can’t exist without songs like “Same Old Story,” “Alien,” and “Homesick” by Pennywise.

Keith Morris (Black Fag, OFF!) and Greg Hetson (Red Kross, Bad Religion) created Circle Jerks in 1979, emerging from the punk underbelly of LA’s South Bay to become the pioneers of a genre known simply as HARDCORE PUNK ROCK. This historic alliance of hardcore punk titans will leave havoc in their wake this September.
