Early Start
- Creole was Derulo’s first language and his mother went to law school.
- At a young age, he started singing and attended performing arts schools in Florida.
- At the age of 8, he started writing his first song as an early attempt at music composition.
- When he was a teenager, his writing skills began to attract attention. He wrote “Bossy” for Birdman, a New Orleans-based rapper, and made a guest appearance on the song, highlighting his ability as a vocalist.
Career Journey
- 2009: Jason launched his debut single, “Whatcha Say” which was produced by J.R. Rotem and Fuego plus heavy samples of the Imogen Heap song “Hide and Seek”.
- 2010: Derulo’s debut album, Jason Derülo, was released which became the first to chart within the top ten of the UK and Irish Albums Charts.
- 2011: The track with Demi Lovato entitled “Together” for her album Unbroken came out while his second studio album, Future History, was released in September.
- 2013: His single, “The Other Side” was made public to radio in April. “The Other Side” soared at No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 in July.
- 2014: Featuring Jason Derulo and Juicy J, Pitbull released a song off the album Globalization named “Drive You Crazy”.
- 2015 -: Derulo launched the first single from his forthcoming fourth studio album, Everything Is 4, called “Want to Want Me” becoming the most-added track in the history of Top 40 radio and the biggest Top 40 US radio launch.
- 2017: The single entitled “Swalla”, was released featuring Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign.
- 2018: Featuring Nicki Minaj and Willy William, “Goodbye” was released which is a joint-collaboration with David Guetta.
- 2020: “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)” by Derulo and Jawsh 685 became a TikTok sensation that topped UK Charts.
