Health Benefits of Coffee and Tea

Coffee prevents diabetes, liver, heart, and brain diseases. Regular coffee intake should be limited to 400 mg a day. There are many benefits associated with the intake of coffee. A few of them are listed below:

  • Controls blood sugar
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Reduces the risk of Alzheimer’s, dementia, and cancer.
  • Lowers the risk of Parkinson’s disease.

Caffeine intake through coffee will keep your mind alert and active for long hours.

Tea contains different amounts of caffeine depending on the kind of tea you are consuming. Like, herbal tea has 0 caffeine, black tea has 48 mg of caffeine, and green tea contains 29 mg of caffeine. Tea contains polyphenols, that help in:

  • Lowering blood pressure and cholesterol
  • Reduces the risk of inflammatory disease
  • Regulates blood sugar and insulin level
  • Maintains body temperature

Tea also protects our body from cancer and cognitive diseases.

Excessive caffeine consumption, beyond the required amount, may lead to:

  • Insomnia and restlessness
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Increased heart rate and risk of epilepsy

Benefits of Tea and Coffee

Here, I will list some of the benefits of tea and coffee.

Antioxidants:

Antioxidants lower the risk of chronic diseases. Tea and coffee are enriched with antioxidants which provide many health benefits.

The most common antioxidants present in coffee include CGA and flavonoids. While tea is rich in catechins and theaflavins. These antioxidants prevent the formation of cancer and kill the pre-existing cancer cells, especially in leukemia, GIT, and liver cancer. When antioxidants are consumed through coffee or tea, they lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

But overdosing can reverse the effects of these health benefits. So, keep a strict eye on your daily caffeine consumption.

Energy Level

The main function of caffeine is to increase dopamine and reduce the adenosine level.

When adenosine is blocked, you won’t feel sleepy and tired. And, Dopamine will activate your brain and increase your heart rate.

After 45 minutes of drinking coffee, 99% caffeine is absorbed by your body. So, you will immediately feel activated and energetic.

Tea has less amount of caffeine compared to coffee. But tea lets your brain relax and releases your stress. So, after drinking a cup of tea, you will feel relaxed and energetic at the same time. Tea gradually activates your brain and body.

Weight Loss

Caffeine intake increases your calories burnt throughout the day. It is estimated that you will burn 3 to 13% more calories after caffeine consumption. Caffeine also reduces the fat content in your body by preventing the formation of adipose cells in your body. Caffeine aids in fast metabolism.

Tea almost contains ½ amount of caffeine as compared to coffee.

Coffee Vs. Tea

Coffee and tea, both are the winners in their domains. So, there is no comparison, and ultimately no winner.

Both drinks have their benefits. No matter whether you are a tea or a coffee lover!! Just enjoy your drink!

Overdose of any beverage can cause potential side effects to your body. Keep your caffeine intake controlled to enjoy that taste along with the health benefits. Coffee reduces the risk of Parkinson’s disease, liver cancer, and diabetes type 2.

While, tea prevents inflammation of joints, stone formation, and cavities. However, caffeine can be highly addictive. So, prevent your dependence on tea or coffee, before you become an addict.

If you are caffeine-sensitive, you can find many decaf options in tea and coffee. Herbal tea is free of caffeine. It may not have as many benefits as caffeinated drinks but you can discover new options.

Final Verdict

Coffee gives you an instant kick of energy due to its higher caffeine content. On the other hand, tea will not give you a boost, but will gradually activate your mind with sustainable energy.

Coffee and tea also help to lose weight. Whether you should drink coffee or tea completely depends on your personal preference.

I will recommend tea because it has more benefits, less caffeine, and sustainable energy. Whichever beverage you like the most, let’s have it together.

Cheers!!!
