1.      Cowboy Bebop

In 2071, people have reached various planets and moons of the solar system. Humanity has already left the destroyed remains of Earth behind. During this time, the planetary police try to keep the galaxy peaceful, working with outlaw bounty hunters called cowboys. Two of them use the spaceship Bebop, hence the show’s name.

 

Mellow and carefree Spike Spiegel is balanced by his boisterous, pragmatic partner Jet Black as the pair makes a living chasing bounty and collecting rewards. They get thrown off course by new members they meet in their travels. They include Ein (a genetically engineered, highly intelligent Welsh Corgi), femme fatale Faye Valentine (an enigmatic trickster with memory loss), and Edward Wong (the strange computer whiz kid). The crew embarks on thrilling adventures that unravel each member’s dark and mysterious past.

 

Cowboy Bebop has well-balanced with high-density action and light-hearted comedy. It is a space Western classic and a homage to the soft and improvised music it is named after.

 

2.      Naruto

The Naruto story begins with the birth of Naruto Uzumaki. The Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, and his wife Kushina Uzumaki sealed the Nine-Tailed Fox that attacked Konoha in Naruto when he was born, causing him to unknowingly grow up alienated from Konoha because everybody was afraid to come near him. Twelve years after the sealing, Naruto gets tricked by the fox spirit into releasing it but is stopped by Minato at the cost of his life.

 

Naruto is looked after by Iruka Umino, who acts as an older brother figure him as he grows up. However, seeing that Naruto is still lonely despite gaining recognition for becoming a ninja on par with Sasuke Uchiha, whose clan gets favoured by the villagers throughout history. Since childhood, he had become a celebrity in his own right due to his prodigious talents. Meanwhile, he gets constantly ignored by all around him. Iruka tells Naruto that he is just as unique to him because they are both alike in never having known their parents.

 

Naruto makes friends with Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno when they get assigned to a three-person squad under an experienced ninja named Kakashi Hatake.

 

3.      Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion

In 2010, the Holy Empire of Britannia began a campaign of conquest, its sights set on Japan. Britannia’s new mobile humanoid armour vehicles dubbed Knightmare Frames helped complete operations in one month. Japan’s rights and identity got stripped away. The once-proud nation now gets called Area 11.

 

The citizens called Elevens had to survive, while the Britannian aristocracy lived comfortably. Because of this, resistance groups rose throughout Area 11, working to free the Japanese islands.

 

Lelouch, an exiled Imperial Prince of Britannia, pretending to be a student, gets involved in the ongoing conflict for the island nation. He had a chance to meet with a mysterious girl named C.C. Through her, Lelouch gains his Geass, the king’s power. With his dominance and new strength, Lelouch may finally realise his goal of bringing down Britannia.

 

4.      Fullmetal Alchemist

The life of Edward Elric, a young alchemist, is forever changed when he receives a letter from his older brother, Alphonse. Alphonse’s words inspire Edward to take up alchemy himself, and he soon discovers that his brother is not the only one who can transmute things with their minds. He meets a girl named Winry Rockbell, who helps Edward search for a way to bring his brother back from the dead.

 

Together they work on developing a new type of alchemy based on human emotions instead of physical properties like metal or stone. They forge the first homunculus and send it on a mission to find out what happened to Al, but he does come back.

 

The story continues with Edward and the others travelling across the country in an attempt to find Al before his body changes too much more than they could have imagined.

5.      Death Note

Light Yagami is an intelligent man dissatisfied with the Japanese justice system. After discovering the “Death Note” lying on the ground, his life drastically changed. This notebook’s instructions claim that if a human’s name gets written within it, that person shall die. Light is initially sceptical of its integrity. But he soon realises that it is authentic after meeting with the former Death Note owner, a shinigami named Ryuk. Light sought to become “the God of the New World” by judging those he deems evil or who get in his way.

 

Light decides to launch a campaign against crime as a vigilante named “Kira.” It eventually garnered worldwide attention. His actions attract the attention of Interpol and a mysterious detective known only as “L.” L quickly learns that Kira can kill people without laying a finger on them and deduces that Kira is in Japan. Light discovered that L would be his enemy, and a psychological cat and mouse game between the two began.

 

Animations are fantastic fictional shows designed for various purposes meant not only for entertainment but also for education and as a mirror to the happenings in society. It is within the portrayal of what happens in the community through animations that evoke emotions in us. The actions don’t have to be the actual happenings of society, but they show the results of how culture is and how the good wins over the bad, but without losses and constant struggles.
