As the Summer Olympics advanced, numerous questions were raised regarding doping – especially among the Russian athletes. Google Adwords Keyword Planner indicates that “what is doping” was predominantly searched globally.

The World Anti-Doping Agency reports that the Russian athletes have on a larger scale been practising doping. That took major space on this year’s media space.

The cases were so severe that the International Olympic Committee was compelled to compile a panel that would clear Russian athletes for them to take part in the 2022 Summer Olympic Games. Others were banned.

Kremlin released a statement on the matter, explaining that they would look into the investigation allegations and would keep off “from forming an emotional response to allegations of the ‘state conspiracy.’”

But doping wasn’t the only top issue that emerged out of the Summer Olympics. Cupping took a sizeable amount of time as well. “What is cupping” was frequently search on Google’s giant search engine.

Cupping is an ancient therapeutic practise in which round glass suction cups are warmed and placed on parts of the body that are experiencing muscle soreness. The cups create a partial vacuum, which is believed to relieve pain by stimulating muscles and blood flow.

Some indications of the cups are dark red circular spots such as those spotted on gymnast Alex Naddour and swimmer Michael Phelps during the Olympics. Many were left with the curiosity to Google more about them.
