Indian Female Cricketers Who Are Married

Cricket is one of the most popular sports in India. It has been played for over a century, and it’s a respected sport that attracts thousands of fans every time a match is played. Cricket is one of those sports where men and women compete against each other; however, there aren’t many female cricketers who have found success in this field due to less attention from sponsorships as well as other problems like gender bias. The following list will introduce you to some famous Indian females who are married. They are all talented and have had successful careers as cricketers.

Shubhlakshmi Sharma

Shubhlakshmi Sharma is a former Indian cricketer. She is the daughter of former Indian cricketer Chetan Sharma, who played in the Tests from 1985 to 2001. Shubhlakshmi Sharma was born in New Delhi on 24 February 1986. She was named after Shubhalaxmi, a Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity.

She started playing cricket at age 11, when her father took her to practice sessions at Sarvodaya Cricket Club in New Delhi where she met former India captain Mithali Raj. Raj advised her to switch from left-handed batting stance to right-handed stance because it would be easier for her to face fast bowlers using this stance as she had an athletic build compared with other players who were less built than her.

Anjum Chopra

Anjum Chopra is married to former India opener Rohan Gavaskar. She is a left-handed batsman and right-arm off-break bowler. She has played for the Indian women’s cricket team in Test and One Day Internationals, apart from representing Delhi Women in domestic competitions.

She was the first Indian woman cricketer to score a century on Test debut and is one of only two female cricketers in the world to have scored over 3,000 runs in Test cricket. Chopra has also played for India at the 2006 Women’s Cricket World Cup, 2009 Women’s Cricket World Cup and 2013 Women’s Cricket World Cup.

Diana Edulji

Diana Edulji was a former Indian cricketer. She was born on 7th January, 1954 in Bombay from Maharashtrian parents and spent her childhood in Mumbai. Diana has played for India’s national women’s team and also served as an umpire in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2018.

She is a right-hand batswoman and a right-arm medium pace bowler who has represented Maharashtra in domestic cricket since 1974/75. She played two Tests and one ODI for India between 1978–1981

Harmanpreet Kaur

Harmanpreet Kaur is a former Indian cricketer and current coach of the Indian women’s cricket team. She is also married to Gurjant Singh, a former Indian cricketer and current coach of the Indian women’s cricket team. They got married in 2016 in a traditional Sikh ceremony held at Patiala, Punjab.

Gouher Sultana

Gouher Sultana is a left-arm fast bowler from Bengal who plays for the Indian women’s cricket team. She made her international debut in 2013 and soon became a regular in the side, playing most of India’s important matches until 2017. She played for Bengal in the domestic circuit, though she has recently switched to Odisha.

In July 2017, she was named as one of the ambassadors for the first edition of Women’s Big Bash League in Australia. She made her T20I debut on 1 October 2013 against England, but didn’t play again until June 2015 due to a stress fracture in her back. She eventually recovered and returned to international cricket in 2016.

Jhulan Goswami

Jhulan Goswami is a left-arm fast bowler who plays for the Indian women’s cricket team. She is a member of the current squad in ODIs, T20Is and Tests. She has represented India in international cricket since 2002; she made her Test debut against England at Worcester on 1 August 2005. Jhulan was born on 7 June 1983 in Domohani village of Barabani block (near to Asansol) of West Bengal in India.

She married former Indian cricketer Ashish Nehra in December 2017, who retired from all forms of cricket same year. They both got engaged in October 2016 during IPL 2016 where they were teammates with RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore).

Smriti Mandhana

Smriti Mandhana is a cricketer who plays for the Indian national team and the Western Storm. She is a right-handed batsman and right-arm medium pace bowler. She made her international debut in 2015.

She made her debut for India in October 2015, playing against England in the Women’s ODI Series at Visakhapatnam. She scored a fifty on her debut, helping India win the match by 8 wickets. In 2016 she was signed up by Sydney Thunder in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL).

Poonam Yadav

Poonam Yadav is a left-arm medium bowler and a member of the Indian women’s cricket team that has played in two World Cups and two World T20s.

Yadav made her ODI debut against England in 2013-14 after she had impressed with her performances for India A. She was called up as replacement for senior bowler Jhulan Goswami, who had sustained an injury during India’s tour to England earlier that year. Yadav had an indifferent start to international cricket as she gave away runs at regular intervals but was able to show glimpses of brilliance with accurate bowling on a helpful pitch at Derby, taking 2/29 from 8 overs in what turned out to be an easy win for India.

Shikha Pandey

Shikha Pandey is an Indian cricketer who plays for the national team. She is a wicket-keeper and a right-handed batsman. She was born on 6th February 1992 in Patna, Bihar, India. She has represented Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket and played one Test match for India women’s cricket team against England women’s cricket team in 2013 at Gros Islet Cricket Grounds, St Lucia, West Indies. Shikha got married to her childhood friend Akash Singh on 8th October 2018 at Raunak International School Auditorium Noida in Uttar Pradesh.

Mansi Joshi

Mansi Joshi is a former Indian cricketer and married to Ramesh Powar, who was a former Indian cricketer. She played for Mumbai Women in the domestic circuit. She was born on 10th January 1984 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She played one Test match for India women’s cricket team against England women’s cricket team in 2013 at Gros Islet Cricket Grounds, St Lucia, West Indies. Mansi got married to her childhood friend Ramesh Powar on 21st December 2006 at the age of 22 years old in Mumbai.

In cricket, not many female cricketers are married and have children. But there are some female cricketers who have married and have kids. So, we can say that cricket is not a barrier for women to get married and have children.
