Can A Cat Eat Oranges? Can I Give My Cat Oranges?

Can Oranges Kill Cats?

Vitamin C, potassium, folate, and water are all abundant in oranges. If you’re trying to supplement your cat’s diet with nutritional foods, a few slices of orange could seem like a smart idea. Cats, on the other hand, are obligate carnivores that have difficulty digesting plant matter. So, are oranges safe for cats to eat?

Although cats aren’t known for eating citrus, if your curious feline is pawing at your hand as you peel an orange, the better question is if cats can eat oranges.

So Can Cats Actually Eat Oranges?

We, humans, enjoy oranges because they are sweet and tasty, but can cats enjoy oranges in the same way? Certainly not! The explanation behind this is that cats have a relatively low number of taste buds on their tongue (only 800 compared to 8000 in humans) and hence are unable to taste oranges. Vitamin C, citric acid, and essential oils are abundant in oranges. All of these components are extremely useful to our bodies; for example, our bodies do not generate vitamin C and must obtain it from foods such as oranges. Cats, on the other hand, have their own way of doing things. Cats are feline members of the family, and the essential oils and citric acid in oranges may be hazardous to them.

Oranges and their skin contain oils that are poisonous to cats, and intake of these oils can induce vomiting and diarrhoea, as well as nervous system diseases.

A 1-year-old kitten has the same developmental level as a 15-year-old person. The age-old rule of multiplying your cat’s age by seven to translate it to human years is inaccurate. The majority of “ageing” in cats occurs within their first two years of life.
