10. Gippsland Lakes Bioluminescence

The Gippsland Lake glows in the dark. It is not that artificial glow in the dark toys, but a real lake that glows. The phenomenon was first observed in the summers of 2008 and 2009 when the shores of the lake glowed faintly blue at night. This phenomenon although is very light but anyone who takes a dip in the lake, finds magnificent glowing waters. The phenomena happen only in summer. The reason behind it is that the bush fires in 2006 followed by rains in 2007, a massive amount of ash was washed into the lake. This led to a bloom in algae, Noctiluca Scintillans, which naturally is red in colour that glows at night. Now that the algal blooms have decreased, we can just find hues of glows during the midnights in summers. But anyhow, it is a unique sight to see.
