About Patti Smith

PATTI SMITH is an artist, author, performer, and writer. In the 1970s, she gained recognition for fusing poetry and rock. As a recording artist, she has released twelve albums, including Horses, which Rolling Stone rated as one of the top 100 albums of all time.

Smith’s first exhibition was at the Gotham Book Mart in 1973, and she has been represented by the Robert Miller Gallery since 1978. The books she has written include Just Kids, which won the National Book Award in 2010, Wītt, Babel, Woolgathering, The Coral Sea, and Auguries of Innocence.

Smith was awarded the title Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres in 2005, the highest award an artist can receive from the French government. In 2007, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In 1980, Smith married musician Fred Sonic Smith. A son, Jackson, and a daughter, Jesse, were born to them. He lives in New York City.
