Lord Howe Island (Location)

This island was formerly known as Lord Howe’s Island. This irregular crescent-shaped island is situated in the Tasman Sea in between Australia and New Zealand. Describing more precisely, it is about 370 mi (600 km) east of Port Macquarie mainland and about 560 mi (900 km) from Norfolk Island.

History

History has it that Lord Howe Island was uninhabited before the European discovered and settled on it. The Europeans first spotted the island on the 17th of February 1788. On 13 March 1788, a British party was sent on the island to claim it. A permanent settlement was established in the year 1834 in June, on Lord Howe Island.

Attributes of Lord Howe Island

The satellite view of this island shows irregular crescents floating in an endless sea. The island is around 10 km long and somewhere between 2.0 to 0.3 km wide. The total is 14.55-kilometre square. The main population resides on the Northern side of the island, while the southern side is laden with forested hills. The highest point of the island is Mount Gower which rises to about 875 m (2,871 ft.) On the west coast of the island, there is a sheltered coral reef lagoon which is semi-enclosed.
All in all-around 28 islands, islets and rock form the Lord Howe Island Group. The best thing about this group of islands is that it is away from the hustle-bustle and stress of city life. This island is totally in the lap of nature and is an ideal destination for people who want to spend some time amidst the tranquillity and serenity of nature.
When in Howe island, you will feel that you are in a different space as the place is not very crowded (at one time only 400 visitors can visit) and there are no mobile phone signals, (which I considered as the best thing) which means you are surrounded with positivity and beauty of nature, away from the world.
