About Kurt Vonnegut

He was an American novelist, satirist, and most recently a graphic artist. The New York State Author Award was given to him between 2001 and 2003.

He was born in Indianapolis, where he set many of his novels. In 1941, he wrote a column for Cornell University’s student newspaper, the Cornell Daily Sun. He trained as a chemist and worked as a journalist before joining the U.S army during World War II.

He attended the University of Chicago as a graduate student in anthropology and worked as a police reporter at the City News Bureau of Chicago after the war. After leaving Chicago, he worked in public relations for General Electric in Schenectady, New York. As a reporter, he attributed his unadorned style to his work.
