About Katie Fforde

Catherine Rose Gordon-Cumming was born 27 September 1952 in England, UK, to Shirley Barbara Laub and Michael Willoughby Gordon-Cumming. Sir William Gordon-Cumming was her grandfather. She has a sister, Jane Gordon-Cumming, who is also a writer. Katie married Desmond Fforde, a cousin of writer Jasper Fforde. As a mother of three children, she didn’t start writing until after the birth of her third child, Guy. Previously, she worked as a cleaning lady and in a health food cafe.

She has been writing romance novels set in modern-day England since 1995. She founded the “Katie Fforde Bursary” for writers who have yet to secure a publishing contract. Katie was elected as the Romantic Novelists’ Association’s fifteenth chairman (2009-2011). Catherine Jones was a great chair, and she’s a tough act to follow. However, I’ve been a member of the RNA for longer than I can remember, and I will always put its interests first.”

“Laura read a lot. She lived alone in a tiny bedsit and her television was so small and snowy she didn”t watch it much. But she read all the time: at bedtime, while she ate, while she cooked, while she dressed and while she brushed her teeth. She would have read in the shower if she could have worked out a method that wouldn”t completely ruin the book. In the same way she could read anywhere, she could read anything, and if it was good, enjoy it.”

One Final Bonus – Katie Fforde Quote

“I created the Katie Fforde Bursary because I was a “nearly there” writer for a long time. I found it a bit of a struggle to pay my annual subscription to the Romantic Novelists’ Association so when I finally became published, I wanted to give something back. That’s the bursary, a year’s subscription and a place at the conference. It does seem to give people a valuable boost to their confidence. People can find out more about the Romantic Novelists’ Association at www.rna-uk.org”
