About Joseph Cassara

Joseph Cassara is an American novelist whose debut novel was published in 2018. A novel about drag culture in New York City in the 1980s during the HIV/AIDS crisis was inspired in part by Angie Xtravaganza and Paris Is Burning.

Born in New Jersey, he attended Columbia University and the Iowa Writers’ Workshop.

In 2019, the novel won Publishing Triangle’s Edmund White Award for LGBT debut fiction[6] and was shortlisted for the 31st Lambda Literary Award for Gay Fiction.
