International Jazz Day 2022 Theme

International Jazz Day

The International Jazz Day is celebrated on 30th April every year. The UNESCO designated International Jazz Day in 2011 “to emphasize jazz and its diplomatic function of unifying people from all corners of the globe.” Herbie Hancock, a jazz musician and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador came up with the concept. Hancock and the Director-General of UNESCO are the co-chairs of Jazz Day. Both UNESCO and the United Nations have included the commemoration on their calendars.

The Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz, a non-profit organization in the United States also led by Hancock, is the primary organizer for Jazz Day. In addition, the Institute oversees UNESCO member state operations and the Global Host Celebration. The Host City’s events culminate in an All-Star Global Concert, which features a variety of jazz musicians from across the world playing in or near a historical monument. In April of 2021, International Jazz Day celebrated its tenth anniversary.

History

It all started in 2011 when the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization announced International Jazz Day to honor jazz music and emphasize its ability to bring people from all over the world together. It’s been continuing strong ever since, and music lovers from all over the globe look forward to this day each year when they may partake in the experience of listening to and producing jazz music.

Do you know? Herbie Hancock, a jazz musician and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador came up with the concept. The UNESCO Director-General and Hancock jointly chair the event, ensuring that visitors worldwide attend each year. Cities like Paris, New Orleans, and New York were among the first to educate the public about Jazz Day and generate excitement for it.

How To Celebrate

Jazz Day is celebrated in different ways by people worldwide. There is no right or wrong way to celebrate international jazz day. Many live jazz concerts are conducted, and individuals may wish to throw their parties. Not only will concerts and events be held throughout the world, but many will also include jam sessions, educational courses and conferences, and community outreach activities. To assist them in running their event, anybody may go to the International Jazz Day website and find and access jazz instructional materials.

The common people should not be hesitant to join in the dialogue and organize an event or discussion to raise awareness about the day. There is a lot of jazz music to hear and play, which is the common denominator. It’s an opportunity for individuals who aren’t familiar with this genre of music to learn more about its origins and history. People of different ages and cultures can be seen dancing to the music and having a good time, while the artists work hard to put on a spectacle that everyone can enjoy.
