About Enid Blyton

In South London, Blyton was the eldest of three children, and he was very interested in music and reading from a young age. She taught for five years before she married editor Hugh Pollock, with whom she had two daughters. The marriage ended in divorce, and Blyton remarried to surgeon Kenneth Fraser Darrell Waters in 1943. In 1968, she died a year after her second husband.

A prolific children’s book author, Blyton penned approximately 800 books during his 40-year career. Children’s adventure and mystery stories, or magical fantasies were often the topics of her writings. Among the most notable series are The Famous Five, The Secret Seven, The Five Find-Outers, Noddy, The Wishing Chair, Mallory Towers, and St. Clare’s.

In 2007, Blyton was the fifth most popular author in the world after Lenin and ahead of Shakespeare, according to the Index Translationum.
