About Dorothy Simpson

A renowned British novelist, Dorothy Simpson writes mystery, thriller, crime fiction, and suspense stories. Her long-running Inspector Thanet book series makes her particularly famous. Author Simpson was born in Blaenavon, Monmouthshire, Wales on June 20, 1933 as Dorothy Preece Simpson. She graduated from Bridgend Grammar School in South Wales after living in South Wales her entire life. Simpson studied modern languages at Bristol University and obtained a degree in the field. Author Simpson moved to Kent immediately after completing her degree and started teaching French at Dartford College. Between 1955 and 1962, she also taught at the grammar schools in Erith.
