About David Nicholls
Nicholls has been an author, screenwriter, and actor for over 35 years. After attending Toynbee Comprehensive School and Barton Peveril Sixth Form College, he graduated from the University of Bristol with a degree in English Literature and Drama.
In 1991, he graduated from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York and took a scholarship to study at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. For the next eight years, he worked sporadically as an actor, eventually working at the Royal National Theatre for three years, then at BBC Radio Drama as a script researcher. During this time, I edited scripts for London Weekend Television as well as Tiger Aspect Productions.
During this period, he began writing, collaborating with Matthew Warchus, an old friend from university, on an adaptation of Sam Shepard’s Simpatico. Among his other works, he wrote Waiting, a situation comedy about frustrated waiters, which was later optioned by the BBC.
David’s first full-time job was as a writer after Simpatico was made into a feature film in 1999. His first novel, Starter for Ten, was featured on the first Richard and Judy Book Club and has been nominated twice for BAFTA awards.
