About Chris Simms

In rural Sussex, three miles from the nearest shop, I was born and raised. My childhood holidays, which lasted for weeks because my dad was a teacher, were spent in a secluded spot on Exmoor. The haunting cries of owls would float in from the blackness beyond the flames as he read me the ghost stories of MR James. In order to get to my tent safely, I always walked at a sprint.
Growing up, what books interested me? A lot of mysteries – especially Alfred Hitchcock’s and The Three Investigators’. The Unexpected by Roahl Dahl is also one of my favorite books, and I have read many Pan Horror Stories over the years.
Later, it was novels that gave insight into unusual minds: Frederick’s twisted desires in John Fowles’, The Collector; Scobie’s tormented thoughts in Graham Greene’s, Heart of the Matter; and Francie’s violent urges in Patrick McCabe’s, Butcher Boy, all influenced one another.

Born: Sussex, The United Kingdom
