The Marine Commando Force, MARCOS, is an Indian Navy special operations unit. It was assembled to handle special operations like Counterproliferation, Asymmetric warfare, Personnel recovery, hostage rescue, and Unconventional warfare. Other roles include Special reconnaissance, Direct action, Counter-terrorism, and Amphibious warfare. The MARCOS have the know-how to operate in maritime environment.

The National Gendarmerie Intervention Group, GIGN, is a faction of the French Armed Forces. The unit has skills in hostage rescue and counter terrorism missions within the country and worldwide. The Jednostka Wojskowa GROM is Poland’s special operations force that primarily counters terrorism. The unit was created on 13th of July 1990 to respond to rising threats from terrorists. GROM means thunder and makes up the five Special Forces of the Polish Armed Forces. Their training equips them to respond to various threats. They also have roles in warfare such as projection of power behind enemy lines and anti-terrorist actions.

This is an elite special operations unit drawn from the German Federal Police. The unit was created in 1973 to help rescue 11 kidnapped Israeli athletes during the Summer Olympic Games.  Some situations that trigger deployment of GSG 9 include extortion, kidnapping, terrorism and hostage taking. Other tasks include neutralizing targets, securing location, sniper operations and tracking down fugitives. The unit is credited for having developed and tested tactics required for these kinds of missions.
